Advert & Interview

Today’s been a busy day. I wrote a press ad for a new client (a local restaurant chain) and they liked it. The ad will shortly be appearing in a number of local magazines. I also answered some quesitons and supplied a profile of myself for a forthcoming interview with Concept Sci-Fi - which I believe will be published in a week or so (keep watching the site). After that, I caught up on some admin and even found the time to finish reading “Blindsight” by Peter Watts – which is an excellent book for anyone interested in psychology, the senses and what it means to be self aware.

Of course, I still have a pile of further things to do – including stories for two forthcoming anthologies, the opening chapters of two new novels, and a half-written collaboration with another Interzone author. Not to mention finding clients, earning money, etc…

Interview In Interzone

A little while ago, I was interviewed for Interzone by Paul F Cockburn. That interview will appear alongside a review of my book The Last Reef in issue 218, which will be out on 11th September.

Local Newspaper Clipping

The pictured article appeared in today’s edition of the Portishead Times. It explains how my short story “The Last Reef” came to be broadcast on WRFR FM radio in Rockland, Maine.

By a strange coincidence, today also saw the arrival in the post of a CD containing the audio recording of WRFR presenter, Paul Cole, reading “The Last Reef”, and the latest issue of Interzone.

Photograph For Local Newspaper

I’ve been contacted by a journalist who wants me to supply a photograph of myself to accompany an article they’re writing. Unfortunately, my digital camera is broken and I’m not sure the camera on my phone will be of sufficient resolution.

Interview With Local Paper

I’ve just had a phone interview with the Weston & Somerset Mercury, who want to run a “local writer comes good” story about me, and about “The Last Reef” being featured on the radio in the States.

New Interview with Sci-Fi UK Review

There’s a new interview with me up at Sci-Fi UK Review, covering everything that’s happened in the twelve months since they last interviewed me in August 2006.

Bristol Evening Post

I had my picture taken last night by an Evening Post photographer. It will accompany a short “local author signs double book deal” piece about me in tomorrow’s edition of the paper.

I then met up with three other SF&F writers from the local area: Colin Harvey, Mark Leyland, and Jo Hall. We had a relaxed evening in the White Hart, talking about the ups and downs of SF&F writing, and aim to get together again in June.

New Interview

There’s a new interview with me online at Pink Raygun, the “webzine for the modern fangirl”.

Is UK SF Publishing Overly Masculine?

Niall Harrison has posted a good summary of the panel discussion I took part in at this year’s Eastercon. It’s also being discussed here.

Three Minutes

I got to the BBC Bristol studios at 8 am, and went on air at 8.40 am…

And three short minutes later, it was all over.

My fellow interviewee, Liz Williams says on her blog that I sounded cogent – but I didn’t feel very cogent at the time. It all went past in a bit of a blur, to be honest, and I didn’t get a chance to make half the points I wanted to… But I think we did okay.
