Silversands: Final Cover Art

I have just seen Vincent Chong‘s final cover design for my novel, SILVERSANDS (due April 2009) and I’m very pleased indeed, as it reflects the same mix of intrigue, technology and character that I tried to convey in the story.

Silversands: Cover Art

In his latest newsletter, Christopher Teague of Pendragon Press writes:

“Talking of covers, Vincent Chong is hard at work on the design for Gareth L Powell’s debut novel Silversands, which is due for launch at next year’s Eastercon. I’ve seen a simple sketching and I’m just salivating at the prospect of seeing the finished version…”

The Last Reef Cover Art

I have just received a jpeg of the final cover art for my forthcoming short story collection, with all the blurb and quotes, etc. It looks hip, funky, and exciting… the sort of book I would have to pick up if I saw it on a bookshelf, just to find out what it was about.

The art is by the Canadian artist Eran Cantrell, and you can check out more of her stuff here: link
(Note: the picture accompanying this post is an early mock-up of the cover, and not the final version).

Silversands Cover Sketch

I am excited this afternoon because Vincent Chong has sent over a preliminary concept sketch for the cover of my novel, “Silversands“. The novel is due next year from Pendragon Press, and I’m very glad to have Vincent on board, as I’ve been a fan of his work since he illustrated my short story “The Last Reef” when it appeared in Interzone.

Interzone Artwork from SMS

When my short story “Ack-Ack Macaque” appeared in Interzone, it was accompanied by some fantastic illustrations. Unfortunately, that issue of the magazine was printed in black and white, so readers missed seeing the pictures in their full colour glory. To remedy the situation, the artist – SMS – has given me permission to post them here until he revamps his own website.

The first picture shows the eponymous hero, Ack-Ack Macaque and the plucky American journalist, Lola Lush, fighting ninjas in the skies over France. The second depicts their plane passing over a phalanx of massive steam-driven tanks. Both pictures are © SMS, 2007. (Click images to see larger versions)

Vincent Chong

I’m very pleased because I’ve just heard from the man himself that Vincent Chong will be illustrating the cover to my novel, ‘Silversands’.

New Interzone Illustrations

SMS has just sent across the illustrations he’s done to accompany my short story ‘Ack-Ack Macaque’ when it appears in Interzone. And they’re excellent, with a cool manga feel that really brings the main character to life.
