Bad news from Pendragon Press

I just received the following email from Christopher Teague of Pendragon Press, confirming that my novel Silversands will now not be published in April next year, as previously planned.

2009 will see no planned publications from Pendragon Press… This decision hasn’t been easy, and is far from being a reflection on the current state of publishing, but more a reflection on my own level of energy and enthusiasm

Needless to say, I’m extremely disappointed by this turn of events, as I know a lot of people were looking forward to reading the book. I’m currently investigating alternate arrangements and will post updates as soon as I have any definite news.

Sorry to hear the sucky news…well, maybe there is at least some kind of something to benefit from this…if I think of any thing, I’ll definitely let you know. Best of luck. Keep DRIVING ON!!!

Well, crap. What’s your next move?

(You should totally serialize it in a monthly publication … or release it in a series of cheap downloadable installments over 18 months … or something. That’s assuming Pendragon doesn’t hang on to the rights?)

I’m not holding onto any rights… the good news is that Pendragon is still solvent, and the break is purely personal – my fear was that if I continued to publish throughout 2009 has per normal, then I’d be totally whacked out, and shutting down PP indefinitely due to quite possible insolvency issues: Humdrumming has already gone the same-way, I wouldn’t want another small press to go down the same route…

If you wish to e-serialise the novel Gareth, then I’d still be/still am interested in going ahead with a paper-version – though of course you’re free to send it elsewhere.

Either way, if you’re in Bradford next Easter then the first pint is on me. :)
